ABOUT THE PROJECT
In 2023, together with Ukrainian and Polish partners, IUEH got the international RITA grant «Ukrainian Center for Occupational Therapy with Adaptive Games», announced by the Education for Democracy Foundation, which is implemented jointly with the Polish partner – Stowarzyszenie AZS WSG (Bydgoszcz, Poland).

ABOUT THE CENTER
Within the framework of the grant competition of the program “RITA – Changes in the Region”, the Polish-Ukrainian Adaptation Center was created on the basis of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities. The center’s activities are aimed at ensuring the process of occupational therapy using adaptive games to reduce the negative phenomena of today (nervous conditions, depression, anxiety, etc.).

Adaptive games are an effective means for physical development, social adaptation, as well as integration and establishment of interpersonal relationships of different population groups, regardless of age, gender and health status. The official opening of the center took place on 04.10.2023.
The “Polish-Ukrainian Adaptation Center” is an institution created to fulfill the tasks of the International RITA project, which provides physical, mental and psychological development, correction of physical and mental development, and rehabilitation of children aged six (seven) years and older and adults.
The main tasks of the Center:
- implementation of psychological, pedagogical, rehabilitation and social functions, including the function of physical education, both for citizens with disabilities and able-bodied persons, and for society as a whole;
- ensuring the comprehensive development of individuals in accordance with their abilities, individual mental and physical characteristics;
- ensuring early social adaptation of people of different ages and physical abilities, internally displaced persons;
- interaction with public organizations and rehabilitation centers to promote the comprehensive development of children and adults who need correction of physical and (or) mental development.
The main directions of the Center:
- organization of group work to solve compensatory and preventive problems, improve educational, upbringing and health-improving functions;
- development of personality, motor skills, and physical and mental state;
- social adaptation;
- implementation of measures aimed at compensating for lost functions in persons who need correction of physical and (or) mental development, promotion of comprehensive development, formation of relationships with members of the team and community, etc.
Classes at the center are held free of charge during the Center’s working hours by instructors and volunteers who have received international certificates and volunteers from among the students of the Faculty of Health, Physical Education and Sports of the Private Higher Educational Institution ” Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities”.

ACADEMIC MOBILITY IN POLAND

Senior Lecturer of the Department of Human Health and Physical Culture Ihor Petruk together with 2nd year students majoring in 227 Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy – Nadiia Kyrylchuk and Oksana Kotynska are successfully studying the grant programme at the University of Economics in Bydgoszcz (Poland) within the framework of the project “Ukrainian Center for Therapy and Adaptation” funded by the RITA program – “Changes in the Region.”
During the training, the performers acquire knowledge and skills in the field of occupational therapy, study its role in the social adaptation of people with disabilities, refugees, people at risk of mental illness, and social isolation. During the first day of classes, the participants have already attended lectures on the following topics: Common methods in occupational therapy, the role of the adaptive games method; types of games used in occupational therapy using the adaptive games method; safety, rules of setting, scoring, prevention of unauthorized situations; features of using games with people of different ages.

They also had the opportunity to master the methods and practical skills of conducting rehabilitation games, to get acquainted with the construction and completion of game sets: “Jacollo”, “Dandelion”, “Corn”, “Paca-Laca”, “Boccia”, “Elastic”. The performers also had the opportunity to communicate with the representatives of the grant project and the management of the University of Economics in Bydgoszcz.

On April 10, the Final Competition on Adaptation within the framework of the RITA project “Changes in the Region” was held at IUEH. During the final tournament, the teams of the Kornyn Lyceum (village of Kornyn), Kolodenka Lyceum (village of Kolodenka), Rivne Lyceum No. 11 (city of Rivne) and the team of the harmonious development studio “Zerno” (city of Zdolbuniv) competed for the title of the best.

Teams had the opportunity to compete for team leadership, as well as for individual prizes in the following adaptation games: Jakolo, Kulbuto, Boccia, Cornhole, Paka-Laka, Elastic.

All winners were awarded cups, medals and prizes, which were presented by Polish partners. The implementation of the project showed its necessity and usefulness for the Rivne region, as evidenced by the increase in the number of visitors. It should be noted that during the period of the center’s implementation, 111 participants aged 5 to 62 were registered. In particular, internally displaced persons and children with special needs were among the visitors. It was also possible to hold several away tournaments in various educational institutions of the Rivne region.
