Rivne is known since 1283. The city’s status was granted in 1939. In 1939-1991 the city was called Rovne. During seven centuries of its existence, the buildings of Rivne have repeatedly flared up with terrible fire. But no one managed to destroy the city. The hard working hands of his inhabitants rebuilt the city. Rivne has grown, and now it has turned into an administrative and economic center of the Rivne region, which is part of the independent Ukraine. Rivne is a city of regional importance in Ukraine, the regional center of Rivne region. The city is located on the river Ustia.

The Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater in Rivne was founded in December 1939. Since 1965 – the theater was named “M. Ostrovskyi Rovne Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater”. The theater became famous due to the fact that on its stage for the first time in Ukraine, the premiere of “King Lear” by William Shakespeare was performed, as well as the fact that in the performance of the theater “Stolen Happiness” of Ivan Franko at one time played folk artists Natalia Uzhvii and Ambrose Buchma. Famous artists Nina Nikolaieva, Georgii Moroziuk, and honored artists of Ukraine Zinovii Kret, Volodymyr Diakov, Galina Tsiomik, Petro Lisnychuk, ballet under the direction of choreographer Yaroslav Slobodan work fruitfully in the theater.
In the XVI century, a Catholic wooden church was believed to serve on the site of the well-known organ hall building. Further, the new spiritual authority built a brick temple of St. Anthony by the project of Polish architect K. Voitsekhovsky. But already in the 1950s, the Soviet government embarked on the destruction of the Catholic shrine. Since then, the cinema “Globus”, which featured documentary chronicles, began to operate in this room. After the closure of the “Globus”, restoration and small rebuilding, the chamber and organ music hall was opened.
The Orthodox wooden Sviato-Voskresenska Church in Rivne was built in 1731. After the fire of a wooden church people began to collect donations for the construction of a new temple. At the foundation of the construction of a new temple, the city expected the arrival of Emperor Alexander III with members of the family: his wife Mariia Fedorivna, Tsesarevych, Grand Duke Nikolai Alexandrovych, Grand Duchess Kseniia Alexandrivna.
The consecration of the new Cathedral Church was held on October 8, 1895 by Bishop of Volyn and Zhytomyr, and the invited clergy from Pochayev, Kremenets and Zhytomyr. In 1912, the Cathedral receives gifts from the Patriarch of Jerusalem Church relics and several precious icons. In February 1962, the authorities closed the cathedral and demolished some church buildings. And only after 27 years of such humiliation, in April 1989, during the celebration of the millennium of the baptism of Rus, the temple returned to the Orthodox Church, and the Sviato-Voskresenska Church again met its parishioners.
The cornerstone of the Pokrovskyi Cathedral was laid by the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine Mstislav in 1990. In the late 90’s began to operate the lower temple of the cathedral – in honor of all the holy land Volyn. The consecration of the upper temple of the cathedral – in honor of the Blessing of the Blessed Virgin Mary – was performed by the Most Holy Patriarch of Kyiv and All Russia-Ukraine Filaret in 2001. Pokrovskyi Cathedral – one of the largest and highest temples in Ukraine. Its length is 51 m, width 42 m, height 55 m. The large dome symbolizing Jesus Christ, and the 12 smaller ones that symbolize the apostles, as well as 8 small domes create a wonderful composition, which is an ornament of Rivne and is visible from all sides of the city. There are lifts for invalids and the elderly in the temple, there is a room for a children’s Sunday school, a medical center, a library, a choir rehearsal, a museum, etc.
Rivne Region
The Love Tunnel is a popular tourist attraction, located near the village of Klevan, in the Rivne region. It has no analogues in Europe and in the world (until 2017, when a similar tunnel was opened in China). This is a green tunnel in the forest, formed due to the movement of the train to / from the woodworking plant in Orzhev. On its way through the forest, the train harvests branches of trees, bushes. As a result, a dense corridor of precise arched shape was formed. So this is not a miracle of nature, but a consequence of the technogenic impact of the train. Thanks to the successful marketing, the tunnel is a place of pilgrimage for tourists and lovers. There are a number of beliefs about the tunnel and its properties.
Tarakaniv Fort – is a defensive structure, an architectural monument of the 19th century. Located near the village of Tarakaniv of Dubno district of Rivne region, in a picturesque area over the river Ikva.
Now the ruined walls of the arches, the masonry of bricks remind the scenery of the apocalyptic film. But despite its neglected appearance, the Tarakaniv Fort attracts past grandeur and amazing intertwining of underground tunnels used for military exercises and defense.
Basaltovi Stovpy (Basalt pillars) are a geological monument of local nature in Ukraine. It is located in the Kostopil district of Rivne region.
Area 0,8 hectares. It is created on the basis of the Ivano-Dolyna deposit basalts. Environmental protection status since 1972. The monument is complex: stratigraphic, petrographic, mineralogical, paleovolcanic. Dense rows of polyhedron columns are striking monumental and geometric perfection. Basaltovi Stovpy are a magmatic breed broken by cracks in the columnar structures characteristic of basalt. The most picturesque quarry with basalt pillars is located in the tract of Yanova Dolyna near the village of Basaltove. In the middle of the water flooded with a career, a small island was created here, which is called “Island of Love”. Basaltovi Stovpy are a unique creation of nature.
